BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
MONDAY, JANUARY 9, 2005

The Board of Directors of the Linn County Humane Society met Monday, January 9, 2005,
at the office of Andrea Vandeloecht in Brookfield, Missouri
Directors present: Peter Janis, Jim Montgomery,
Andrea Vandeloecht, Wendy Walton, Joe Enyeart, Wendy O'Toole and Karmen Robertson.
Directors absent: Kevin Devoy, Karmen Robertson and Nancy Smith.
Also present were Bill Blanck, Eleanor Ravens, past board president and Jim Arnold
President Andrea Vandeloecht presided over the business meeting.
MINUTES: Minutes of the December 12th meeting were distributed and corrected. After correction, the minutes were approved.
TREASURERS REPORT: A treasurer's report was presented by Andrea. Balance as of December 31, 2005, was $2,292.98. This includes
monies made on the two dinners, and the grant from Petso for spaying and neutering. Also several donations and dues were received in December.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT: Bill Blanck reported in the month of November, 9 dogs and 20 cats had been spayed or neutered. YTD total is 354,
compared to a YTD total last year at this time of 395.
SHELTER REPORT: Joe Enyeart provided a diagram for completion of the interior of the shelter and a list of material needs.
Joe indicated that he is going to try to get doantions of materials from various businesses.
Andrea reported that several of our large carrying crates had been stolen. A wide ranging discussion ensued about use of crates and
monitoring that use and soliciting donations of replacement crates.
A discussion was also held about decisions regarding putting down dogs. The shelter is not a no-kill shelte, however no dog is put down w
without every consideration regarding its health or the possibility of adoption either at our shelter or elsewhere. Jerry will contact both
Andrea and Jim Montgomery when he feels there is aneed to have a dog put down. The three of them will then decide whether or not
a dog should be put down.
OLD BUSINESS: Jim Arnold reported on the Humane Society web site. He will continue to update it on a regular basis. We still are in need
of a mission statement.
Peter discussed the up-coming Annual Valentines Day luncheon for Sunday, February 12th.
NEW BUSINESS: Wendy O'Toole indicated that a young man in Brookfield, Nolan Stark is working on his Eagle Scout Award. He would like to
take on a project involving the Humane Society in order to receive this award.
The next meeting will be held Monday, February 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the office of Andrea Vandeloecht in Brookfield.

President Andrea Vandeloecht presided over the business meeting.
MINUTES: Minutes of the December 12, 2005 meeting and the January 9, 2006 meeting were distributed and approved as presented.
TREASURERS REPORT: Due to the absence of the treasurer, there was no treasurer's report. Andrea indicated that she thought we had
a balance of approximately $2,500.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT: Bill reported in the month of December, 2005, 11 dogs and 18 cats had been spayed or neutered. The
total amount of dogs and cats spayed or neutered in 2005 was 383, compared to a total of 414 in 2004
Andrea provided a copy of the new spay/neuter policy for review. After discussion a couple of changes were made and on a motion
by Wendy O'Toole, seconded by Kevin Devoy, the new policy was approved.
SHELTER REPORT: Joe reported on attempts to get donations of materials from the Home Depot stores in Kirksville and
St. Joe. At this time neither store is able to meet our requests.
Wendy O'Toole reported that Nolan Stark is working on his Eagle Scout Award, and has chosen the beautification of the shelter as his project.
The possibility of obtaining a Senate Bill 40 person to help out with staffing problems was discussed.
OLD BUSINESS:Joe reported that nothing has been done about grinding the kennel floors. Rich Rhodes and Joe continue to ry to get this accomplished.
NEW BUSINESS:Eleanor distributed fliers for the Valentine's Dinner on Sunday, February 12 at the Masonic Lodge in Marceline. Discussion followed
about work schedules, silent auction, serving time, menu and ticket prices.
The next meeting will be held Monday, March 6, 2006.

MINUTES: Minutes of the February 6, 2006 meeting were distributed and corrected. After correction, the minutes were approved.
TREASURERS REPORT: In the absence of the treasurer, no treasurer's report was presented. Andrea stated that Nancy had told her
we had approximately $4,000. We have received another grant of about $900 it was thought.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT: Bill reported that a total of 45 dogs and cats had been spayed/neutered in January, 2006. This is better than January, 2005.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Discussion was held on finishing the interior rooms at the shelter, employee hours and cleaning cages and runs.
Lengthy discussion was held on ages of volunteers and what age requires adult supervision and schedules for volunteers in the summer.
Eleanor reported approximately $1800 from Valentine Dinner and 3 to 4 hundred dollars is anticipated from a sandwich lunch.
OLD BUSINESS: Dog classes will begin April 24th. They will run for six weeks and cost $60.00. Each eligible
dog will need shot record, chock/slip collar, and a lead/leash.

MINUTES: Minutes of the March 6 will be distributed and corrected. Wendy Walton and Karmen Robertson took
minutes and haven't reconciled them yet.
TREASURERS REPORT: Nancy Smith reported we have a balance of $1600 with outstanding bills of $1100. Balance
after bill payment, $500.00
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT: YTD: Dogs, 27; Cats, 53; Total, 80
SHELTER REPORT:
- We have a new part time employee, Terry Hecke. He works mornings four days a week.
- A load of dogs will be transferred to Minnesota this week.
- Joe is working on getting the concrete ground down to
improve drainage in the shelter. Also, backer board to repair spaces where runs join foundation has been donated. Joe
will work on the silicone filler to finish the job.
- We have been given 18 cat cages. They are in St. Joe
and will need to be picked up.
- Nolan Stark is continuing his Eagle Scout project of beautifying and landscaping
around the shelter. We can help by saving aluminum cans and encouraging others to save them.
- Amy Hoerrmann will start dog training classes on Monday, April 24th. Please preregister to facilitate planning.
- The annual meeting will be held May 8th. Animal related treats for members, not pets, are to be brought and shared.
OLD BUSINESS: covered in shelter report
NEW BUSINESS: a number of ideas on fund raising were discussed. A mission statement was presented and discussed
and formally voted for adoption.
The next meeting will be held Monday, May 8, 2006 to coincide with the annual meeting.

TREASURERS REPORT: Treasurer Nancy Smith reported we have adequate funds in the treasury
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT:YTD 43 dogs, 82 cats, total 125 animals.
SHELTER REPORTS: New employee Terry Hecke is doing extremely well. Many compliments on his performance.
We are still waiting on the cat cages from St. Joseph. Nolan Stark's Eagle Project is ready to begin. Waiting on
the weather. Seven dogs are enrolled in the Obedience classes beginning this evening at the Shelter. Summer
volunteer program discussed and approved. Dates for BBQ meat sale at Prenger's in Marceline suggested: June 29th-30th or July 20th.
MacDonald McPuppy Nite suggested for Tues. August 22nd.
OLD BUSINESS:None
NEW BUSINESS:Reorganization of Board of Directors. Kevin Devoy retired. Nancy Smith resigned as Treasurer.
Steve Roberts added to Board. Andrea Vandeloecht and Dr. Jim Montgomery reappointed to Board.

TREASURERS REPORT: In the absence of Nancy Smith, most bills have been paid. This is an informal feeling.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT: YTD: Dogs, 13; Cats, 19; Total, 32. YTD Total: 157
SHELTER REPORT:
- The new employee, Terry Hecke is doing a wonderful job. He works mornings four days a week.
- A load of dogs will be transferred to Minnesota late June - early July.
- A vicious pit bull/mix has been dumped at the shelter. It is loose and appears without warning. Avoid if
seen. It has avoided capture so far.
- We have been given 18 cat cages. They are in St. Joe
and will need to be picked up when available.
- Nolan Stark has completed his Eagle Scout project of beautifying and landscaping
around the shelter. All that is left to do is the suggestion/note box when shelter is closed.
- Dog training classes began on Monday, April 24th. Seven dogs are inrolled and the class so far is
a success.
OLD BUSINESS: Janet Daniels has graciously aggreed to serve as treasurer of the society.

NEW BUSINESS: a number of ideas on fund raising were discussed.
Meat sale in Marceline Prengers parking lot on July 27, 28, 30. 10:30am to 6:30pm.

Memorial Money was received in memory of Edgar Levell.
Kind News ( like Weekly Reader ) this fall in area schools.
Andrea is doing a program at Brookfield Library in July.

all friends to stop by and participate.
Meat Sale at Prengers in Marceline still has date to be set. Will try for August 10-11 or two weeks later.
NEW BUSINESS: None. Board wishes Rev. Nancy Smith the best in her new appointment. Heard she had found a
humane society nearby.

TREASURERS REPORT:Janet Daniels presented the report. We have a positive balance currently with all bills paid.
Also presented was a copy of Aug. 2005 report to anticipate this months expenses.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT: YTD: Cats 141 Dogs 117 TOTAL: 258
SHELTER REPORT: The drop-off cage has been moved and a concrete pad poured. Additional concrete will be poured
to make better base for the drop-off cage. The concrete was donated by O'Laughlin Concrete of Shelbina and Marceline. Discussion
of afternoon cleaning.
OLD BUSINESS:Puppy Nite will be held at Brookfield McDonalds from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Various board members signed up
for working at McDonalds. The meat sale will be at Marceline Prengers Grocery on Aug. 31st & Sept. 1st. Board members signed up for
work shifts. Andrea made a presentation at the Brookfield Carnegie Library to the summer reading classes. She reported it was well received.
NEW BUSINESS:Accept letter of resignation from Wendy O'Toole. Start looking for a replacement. Several names suggested and
will be contacted to determine if interested.
The next meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 11, 2006.
A gift of appreciation and cake to recognize Bill Blanck for his years of service. He will be greatly missed when he and his wife move to Manhattan, KS.

SHELTER REPORT:We are advertising for a new employee for the shelter. In anticipation of a new hiring, hours will be expanded
to 3:00pm - 5:00pm. Discussion of volunteers. Adoption Day. The Smoked Meat Sale was a tremendous success. We will be selling painted pumpkins,
gourds, and Beany Animals at the Toonfest in Marceline the weekend of September 15-17.
OLD BUSINESS: Employee handbook was discussed but tabled until a quorum is present
NEW BUSINESS: Dog training class will be scheduled for later this Fall. Resignation of Joe Enyeart from board due to employment
conflicts was accepted. Search for replacements for him and Wendy Walton whose term has expired.

MINUTES: In the absence of Wendy Walton, Secretary, minutes were defered until the November meeting.
TREASURERS REPORT:Steve Roberts relayed Janet Daniels' Tresurers Report. A positive balance and all current bills paid.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT:Dogs September - 18 - YTD 163 , Cats September - 23 YTD 179, TOTAL YTD 342
SHELTER REPORT:We have two new employees: Kim Hoffman who fills in extended hours of 3:00pm to 5:00pm and Elaine Meyers, a
vet technician from California. Both have started out on a very positive note. Sick dogs, isolation, cleaning were discussed. Need for a protocol
for a sick dog was discussed. The situation of dogs in mobile cages in the front drew discussion. Dog training class will begin Monday,
October 16th and will end the Monday before Thanksgiving.
OLD BUSINESS: Employee handbook was discussed but tabled until a quorum is present
NEW BUSINESS: Jim Arnold was nominated and elected to the board. We have received a gift card donation from Home Depot,
Kirksville. An invitation to the Grand Opening of Lowe's in Chillicothe was tendered. Barbara Janis' volunteer classes are coming over on Thursdays
to work for an hour. Much good work is being done. NHS from Marceline High School will complete anti-weed barriers and decorative rock for
landscaping around the shelter. Brookfield FFA is going to organize a fund raiser to purchase heavily used supplies and possibly a lawn mower and/or
power washer. We will sell painted pumpkins and gourds at the Brookfield Homecoming parade this Friday, October 6.

MINUTES: Minutes of the October 2rd meeting are on this website. Board members urged to check them at their convenience.
TREASURERS REPORT:All bills paid up except for spaying/neutering to Dr. Jim Montgomery. Various checks to be deposited. LaClede, Bucklin and Meadville
are expected to pay their yearly allocation in the near future. 2007 membership letters will go out in next three weeks.
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT:Peter Janis absent, report deferred to December meeting
SHELTER REPORT: Official notice of accepting cats will be made in near future. Cat donors need to remember that cats do not adopt out very
quickly and are subject to time limits before euthanasia. NHS has finished landscaping and the shelter looks very good.
OLD BUSINESS:Decorated pumpkin sales were very good. We could have sold another 10 if we had been able to paint them. More
pumpkin-painters will be used next year.
NEW BUSINESS:Several new rescue locations have been found. One specializes in Dachshunds, another in behavior challenged
dogs. The Valentine dinner fundraiser for Marceline is tentatively set for February 11, 2007 from 11:00am to 1:00/1:30pm. A silent auction will be
held in conjuction with the dinner. Dog Training class coming up. Six dogs enrolled already.

MINUTES: Minutes of the November 6, 2006 were distributed, and approved as presented.
TREASURERS REPORT:No Treasurers report
SPAY/NEUTER REPORT:No Spay/Neuter Report
SHELTER REPORT: Andrea explained that we had a major problem with rats. Names of exterminators were suggested. This problem must be dealt with as the rats are eating the stored dog and cat food.
Discussion was held regarding the maximum amount of dogs we can house. we have 22 runs and two isolation pens. It was determined that the maximum amount of dogs we can handle at one time is about 40. Cat cages have been installed, but no decision was made as to whether or not to advertise that we are now accepting cats. We are hoping to raise enough funds this year to complete the puppy room.
Andrea asked what we wanted to da as a little something for Christmas for our employees. In the past we have given them gift certificates to local restaurants. On a motion by Wendy, seconded by Ginny, it was voted to give each employee a card and a cash gift of $10.
OLD BUSINESS:Andrea reported that letters had been sent to all businesses that have suported the Humane Society in the past. All membership letters will be sent in the next week or so. Alist of businesses and members was distributed. ( See home page for listings) Andrea asked for suggestions of others who may be interested in becoming members. Several names were suggested.
NEW BUSINESS:Our meat sale is scheduled for a Friday in January. It will be held at Prengers in Marceline, date and times yet to be determined.
Our annual Valentine's Day luncheon and silent auction will be held Sunday, February 11 at the Masonic Lodge in Marceline. The Masons will prepare the food. Volunteers will be needed to serve and provide desserts. Eleanor will have a sign-up sheet at one of the next meetings.
The next meeting will be held Monday, January 8, 2007
